MOA: University of British Columbia
3000/48
Lantern slide. Rectangular wooden slide holds a round glass plate at centre, surrounded on one side by a copper ring. Plate shows a coloured image printed on glass of an erupting volcano, fire and ash spewing forth, lava running down the mountain face, setting fire to a small settlement. In the middle ground is a town on the shores of a body of water, a crowd of town’s people watching the volcano, and small boats full of people floating on the water. In the foreground on a small bluff is a small group of men pointing at the volcano. Stamped in wood: "W.E. & F. Newton / Opticians & Globe Makers to the Queen...London"
