Slightly flaring gambrel bowl with rounded base. Terracotta with red-brown slip, traces of orange-red, orange and white paints. The exterior sides have incised bands with four orange-red painted profile monkey figures, 7.6 cm of space between panel designs and a triple rim band (central one segmented). The monkey figures have arched backs, curled tails, and frontal heads positioned to the right. The figures are outlined by 2.2 cm reed-stamped circles. The monkeys have reed-stamped eyes, dotted nostrils, rectangular ears, and mouths dotted at the ends. Molded manufacture; burnished surface. Broken and repaired.

  • Narrative

The motif is drawn from Trophy Head Cult iconography, dominant during this time at nearby Ocucaje, but rendered in traditional Callango Early Paracas stylistic conventions.
