Byzantine coin of Constantine VI and Irene, 780-797. Obverse: bust of Constantine VI, to left, and bust of Irene, to right; Constantine VI wears a crown with cross and a chlamys; Irene wears a crown with cross and a loros, an embroidered and jewelled scarf; to right, Irene holds a cruciform sceptre. Reverse: large ‘M’; to left, ‘X’; to right, ‘N’; beneath, ‘A’; above, three busts, facing front; to left, Leo III; in middle, Constantine V; to right, Leo IV; all wear a chlamys.
