MOA: University of British Columbia
3095/1655
Byzantine coin from 10th or 11th century. Obverse: bust of Christ, facing front; he has a nimbus cruciger around his head, which is a cross within a halo; to left, inscription says ‘IC’; to right, ‘XC’. Reverse: large cross with four ornate ends; beneath, inscription says ‘NIKA’. The coin lacks any images or inscriptions which would indicate the emperor to whom it belongs, meaning that it is most likely from the ‘Anonymous Folles’ Period, 970-1092.
