Noh Mask

Carved wooden Noh mask of “Magojiro”. Painted with black hair and faint eyebrows. The skin is painted white and light grey, the teeth are black, its lips are red. There is a dark purple cord on the back of the mask attached through small holes at the temples. There are holes carved in the eyes, and nostrils. The back of the mask is dark brown wood stamped with the maker’s mark. Part b is a taupe fabric bag for part a, decorated with a floral pattern in orange, yellow, green, pink and white. The inside of the bag is white fabric, written on with black ink Japanese characters. The white ties on the bag also have black Japanese characters written on them and a small red maker’s mark. The bag has white ties, with a strip of flexible paper tied to one which is also inscribed with Japanese characters.
