Square ceramic tile with a floral motif painted on front. Surface is glazed. Background is white. Flower-like shapes in the top left and bottom right corners of the tile, surrounded by three dark blue circles. Central design of a lavender blue and dark-red purple flower, with pointed petals, growing out of the bottom left corner towards the top right corner of the tile. Stem of flower is yellow-brown, with three offshoots on either side. The bottom offshoots have lavender blue flower buds, with dark red-purple tips. The middle offshoots have large dark green leaves. The top offshoots have small dark red flowers. Diagonal ridges on back of tile. Manufacturer’s mark, Maw & Co., stamped in between ridges.

Specific Techniques
Tile was manufactured by dust-pressing, a technique that uses clay milled to a fine powder with low moisture content, then pressed in a die at high pressure. Vibrant opaque colours suggest it is majolica glazed.
