Hand-knitted Cowichan-style pullover sweater, with collar. Design consists of grey bands with alternating dark brown and cream stripes in between. White, horizontal dotted line through grey bands, snowflake-like pattern through dark brown and cream stripes. Collar is plain grey. Cuffs and bottom edge bordered with a wide light brown band, trimmed with diagonal lines. Lines done in cream and dark brown. Brown cord looped through back of neck.

  • Narrative

    The donor's mother, Millicent Sowerby, worked at the Cowichan Merchants store in Duncan, BC from 1930 to 1936. She either bought or traded for this sweater while working there. (The family believes she knew the woman who knitted the sweater, but the name wasn't recorded.)
