Lantern Slide
MOA: University of British Columbia
3000/59
Single slipper lantern slide. A rectangular wooden frame holds two glass plates side by side, one stationary and the other moveable. The stationary plate shows a vibrantly coloured, printed image of a girl in a red dress offering food to a large swan floating in a lake, as well as a second figure of the girl being tossed in the air and devoured by the bird. The background is black. The moveable plate has two carefully placed blotches of black ink that when moved hides or reveals the images of the girl. The frame is built to accommodate the moving slide, having a large groove in the end of one side for the plate to move into, and a semi-circular finger hole at the edge.
