Byzantine coin of Leo III, 717-741. Obverse: busts of Leo III, to left, and Constantine V, to right; both wear a chlamys and a crown with cross; both hold an akakia in front of them, a silk roll containing dust that symbolizes mortality; between their heads, there is a cross; above their heads, it says 'LEO'. Reverse: large ‘M’; to left, ‘XXX’ in a vertical position; to right, ‘NNN’ in a vertical position; above, cross; beneath, ‘A’.
