Obverse: busts of Michael I, to left, and Theophylactus, his son, to right; Michael I wears a chlamys; Theophylactus wears a loros, an embroidered and jewelled scarf; each wears a crown with cross; to left, inscription says ‘MIXA’; above, ‘HL’; to right, ‘ΘEOF’. Reverse: large ‘M’; to left, ‘XXX’ in a vertical position; to right, ‘NNN’ in a vertical position; above, cross; beneath, ‘A’.
