Byzantine coin of Andronicus II, 1282-1328. Obverse: bust of the Virgin Mary; she has a halo; she raises her hands in prayer; to left, a pattern of dots, possibly meant to be letters; to right, it says ‘ΘV’. Reverse: two figures, standing and facing front; to left, Andronicus II; to right, Michael IX, his son and co-emperor; between them, they hold a long cross.
