The centre is bordered by repeating squares with small white flowers and white bands with repeating light blue dots on dark yellow ground. Surface is glazed. Back of tile has 6 raised lines. Manufacturer’s mark, Minton Hollins Co Patent Tile Works Stoke on Trent No 2 Buff, stamped on ridges.

  Design by Augustus Pugin et al, for Minton Hollins & Co. Minton entered into partnership with Michael Hollins in 1845, forming the tile making firm of Minton, Hollins & Company. The company was at the forefront of a large, newly developing market as a supplier of durable decorative finishes for walls and floors in churches, palaces and public buildings, as well as domestic houses.
