Byzantine coin of Heraclius, 610-641. Obverse: two rulers standing and facing front; Heraclius is on the left; Heraclius Constantine, his son, is on the right; each wears a crown with a cross; Heraclius Constantine holds a long cross in his right hand; between their heads, there is a cross; to left, there is another cross; to lower left, inscription says ‘OCA’; to right, there are three layers of inscriptions; the first says ‘TI’; the second says ‘INN…A’; the third says ‘SEThERACONSTPPA’. Reverse: large ‘M’; to left, inscriptions are illegible; to right, it says ‘III’ or ‘IIII’ in a vertical position; to far right, it says ‘ONIK’; above, ‘P’ within a cross; beneath, ‘B’; in exergue, ‘CON’. This coin has been overstruck twice, resulting in confusion on both sides. On the obverse, only the third inscription to the right belongs to this coin. The ‘OCA’ on the obverse also indicates that this coin was once used during the reign of the previous emperor, Phocas. On the reverse, the ‘ONIK’ indicates that this coin was minted in Nikomedia at some point before being minted at Constantinople.
